I received the following sad news regarding Marni:

"To her many biking friends, some of whom she met on Women Tours rides, it is with great sorrow that I have to let you know that she passed away today, March 9th, 2017 from the results of a traumatic brain injury. Marni was severely injured in an accident on a Woman Tour ride in Moab, Utah in October of 2015. For the last 16 months she has fought to regain some of her former mental and physical abilities. Today she expended the last bit of her energy in that fight and has passed on.

Over the last 12 years, biking was one of her major passions in life. She rode whenever she got the chance and she cherished the friendships that she made on the road. I want to thank all of you who shared her road bike passion and who befriended her for your continuing support during her long battle with TBI. Many of you sent her cards and letters that I read to her. She enjoyed them all and they helped to keep her spirits up.

Over the last year, she especially treasured the quilt made from colorful biking jerseys that many of you helped to make. I will try to send individual letters to those of you who I have addresses for when things have settled down. If you would like, please make a remembrance donation in her name to either the American Cancer Society (she was a survivor), or to Planned Parenthood for their support of women's health.

Again, my thanks to all of you for being in Marni's life. Phil Harang (husband of Marni)"

NELG received the following Facebook message:

"I have these 3 patterns with thread, and I no longer do bobbin lace. I'd like to pass them along to someone who could use them. Pickup appreciated, but might be able to meet up somewhere nearby (I am in Sandown NH, so Derry, Plaistow, Salem)."

They are 3 Torchon patterns from Biggins Lace (http://bigginslace.co.uk/): Clare, Natalie and one other. From experience, the patterns include starting instructions and an enlarged working diagram.

If anyone is interested, please contact me at nelginfo@gmail.com and I will pass on the inquiry.

    Thanks

    Jill

Post from IOLI re-posted from our Facebook page:

Choi +Shine, the creators of the wonderful lace cap that floats over the Amsterdam canal are producing a new illuminated lace artwork that will be suspended at shoulder height over the Marina Bay in Singapore as part of I Light Marina Bay, Asia’s Leading Sustainable Light Art Festival. The work will be called the Urchins and will consist of three huge sea urchins in what appears to be reticella lace but is actually large crochet. (Photos of this project cannot be made public at this time so I am posting photos of the cap which has a similar aesthetic.)

Jin Choi says, “All the motifs will be assigned specific locations on the Urchins, so once completed, you will be able to locate your own work. Our deadline is the first week of Feb., but even a small contribution would be of great help for us.”

Each motif should be 70cm x 70cm (roughly 2’-4” x 2’-4”) and they are worked with 3mm polyester rope with 5.5mm hook.

Those who are interested in helping should contact jchoi@choishine.com.  The company is located in the Boston area, so due to logistical reasons, the closer to Boston that you are, the better.

As many of you know, the IOLI bulletins have been delayed as of late, including the winter issue.  IOLI is trying to get the information on the 2017 convention out as quickly as possible.  The hotel and Wednesday tour information will come shortly, but They have released the classes and registration forms.  Here are the links:

My daughter is a professional costume technician and also a lacemaker and has been a NELG  member. She has a six week contract to work in Connecticut at the Hartford Stage, starting January 18th.The commute from my house in Brookline, MA is to long for a daily commute so she is looking for a room to rent for this time. If anyone of you would know of a possibility, I would greatly appreciate if you could contact me at Ewagner1@gmail.com or my phone (617)3199101. Many thanks, Elisabeth

Those on the Arachne list organize an ornament exchange every year.  Most are simple laces, but it gives you a view into how well these simple laces can be used.  Jenny Brandis has posted the pictures on her site in Australia, http://brandis.com.au/arachne/2016/index.html .

    Enjoy!

Carolyn Hasting's husband Jeremy passed away on Dec 8.  While she has not been able to attend a lot of meetings lately, Carolyn has been Vice President as well as an early web mistress in the past for NELG.  Here is a link to Jeremy's obituary: http://obittree.com/obituary/us/massachusetts/clinton/philbin-comeau-funeral-home/john--slinn/2791210/
