Ipswich Lace
Ipswich lace is the only known American hand-made bobbin lace to be commercially produced. Centered in the coastal town of Ipswich, Massachusetts north of Boston, a community of lacemaking arose in the 18th century.
The New England Lace Group is working to educate the public about this unique piece of history. With grant support from the International Organization of Lace, NELG has created a mobile exhibit describing the known history of Ipswich lace and what is known about the lace and its makers. The exhibit was unveiled to the public at Old Sturbridge Village in early September 2022.
Research continues and more discoveries of Ipswich lace are being made. Visit often to see updates!
