A Rose for Kalofer 2025

Are you ready for the next OIDFA Congress 2025 in Kalofer, Bulgaria? Would you like to be part of a collaborative project to welcome the participants and thank the local organizers?

At the ‘Big Lace Installations’ course held by Puntaires de Girona in July 2024, it was decided to make a big lace welcome installation in KALOFER 2025. The idea is to pay homage to the Bulgarian Rose and, as Sally Olsen suggested, open it to all of you, make it a worldwide collaborative project to celebrate lace and friendship.

Do you want to be part of it?

Working directions: −

  • Bulgarian roses are pink, tones of pink tending to light rose. Please avoid dark, brilliant colors. Merging 2-3 tones in the work helps to make it alive.
  • The size of the pattern to make the flowers must be between 15 & 20 cm wide; you need to enlarge it about 50-60%. Link to pattern.
  • DMC or similar Perle cotton size 8 – 12 according to the size of pattern (Size 12 for the 15 cm diameter, Size 8 for bigger): please make them light open enough…
  • 18 – 22 bobbins
  • Absolutely need to follow directions to make sure they can be mounted together!
  • Start at the outside edge of the rose, finish in the inside edge, and leave 50 cm of one thread (preferable the gimp) for sewing
  • Starch it quite well
  • Send it FLAT to Kalofer in a large envelope with a sheet of carboard for protection to:

Bulgarian Center for Bobbin and Needle Lace
“The Kalofer rose collaborative project 2025”
ul. Hristo Botev 4 Kalofer 4370
