    Hi all,

Earlier this morning a blast email has gone out about the Big E Signup.   Can you believe it?  I'm already looking forward to the fair.  It's not just about the demonstrating making lace , I love that part, it is the whole event.  Hanging out in the barns, watching the horse shows and possibly seeing a calf born is always a treat.

This is a great opportunity to show case your skills and talk up NELG.  On the website there is the NELG Broshure.  I will be bringing up a large supply of broshures, but I remind all of you to bring some more.  You can check out FAQ's on demonstrating especially if you haven't demonstrated or need a refresher.

For those of you that have made an entry - Thank You!  Judging will take place on Monday Sept 12th.  As soon as we have the results, we will post them on our site.

I encourage you to sign up to demonstrate!  It's a great time, we are very popular, and you get to enjoy the fair as well.  I especially like the ability to park at the back gate!

    Hope to see you there!

    Hi everyone -

It's a glorious day here and I hope all of you are out enjoying the late days of August.

If you haven't seen your email in the last two days - the member program survey is active.  In the last couple of days - we have had a great response and you, our members, are sending in great ideas and advice.  We so appreicate the information.

To get to the survey - click on Members Only on the menu to the left (you'll need to be logged in) and the first item is the survey.  It will take you less than 2 minutes to answer!

Thanks again - looking forward to your responses,

    Patty

Thanks to Jill when I found in my inbox was an email reminder that my membership to NELG is due in two weeks.

Yes she and I have worked long to get all the members signed up at the website.  Now we are seeing the benefits.  Over 40 reminders were automatically generated saving us time, paper, and postage.  Much thanks for those members that used the PayPal feature this morning as it saves time and energy for our Treasurer Winann.  Of course, you may mail  in a check to renew your membership.

While automation is fine, please be assured that there still will be the personal touch in taking care of anything you may need.  Mark your calendar for September 10th - it will be our first meeting of the year.  You will be receiving a reminder about two weeks in advance with links to information you should bring to the meeting.

    Thanks again,

    Patty

I was cruising the Fiberarts Magazine website and came across a study being done by a psychology professor at University of Wisconsin,  "Exploring the Role of Textiles and Handcrafts in Women's Lives II" If you want to participate, go to the website and take her survey: http://www.uwec.edu/psyc/Who/collier.htm

Note that this is NOT the NELG programs survey that Patty mentioned in a previous post!

Do you all remember that program Family Feud? Contestants would try to guess the answers of a survey question.  Well there is no feud here.

In a very short time you will be asked to respond to NELG's first electronic survey.  This survey will tabulate your thoughts and comments about programing for this year and the future.

So in advance - thanks so much!  You are our members and we wish to bring great programing to our gatherings.  Please look for the email in the next several days.

Everyone look around your completed projects to send one in.  We need entries,

I have heard that we have 3 more entries already coming in!  I think I have found an entry for myself.

Our presence at the Big E is important to our organization.  First - a thank you for all those members that have volunteered in the past to demonstrate making lace.  Without all of you, our organization would not have grown.  Without you we would not be expanding the love of this art to new people.

I truly encourage you to find a completed project - fill out the application and mail in your $5 bucks - see Jill's blog entry before this one for details or email at NELGinfo@gmail.com.   Parking & 2 entrance tickets for $5!, an opportunity for people to ohh and ahh at lace - priceless!

PS - maybe one of those UFO's could be completed between now and the beginning of September!

    Thank you all,

    Patty

If you have any entry for The Big E and live in Eastern MA, Bryce will be collecting entries and taking them to West Springfield.  If you live in CT, Winann will be collecting entries at our monthly lace day on September 3.  Please contact either of them directly if you wish to coordinate the hand-off.

News is beginning to come back to us from those members that attended IOLI convention in Maryland last week.

It seems that everyone had a good time and lots of work on their pillows.  Great time, great teachers!  The awards ceremony was nice and NELG received their certificate for volunteer hours.  I'm looking forward to seeing it and will post it on the site for all to admire.

Those of you that attended, please send our Newsletter Editor, Gail,  a story about the convention, your work, the teacher you studied with so that we can all enjoy!

The date for next year's convention, 2012, is already on our calendar.  It will be held in Minnesota for 2012, Utah for 2013, and 2014 is CA just about settled from my reading of the last issue of the Bulletin.  Wouldn't it be nice to bring the convention to New England in 2015??  Anyone game?

I received this note from Laurie at the blog and new YouTube channel called LaceNews.  Go on to the site and you can see lots of video about lace.

    Hi Patty,
My apologies, I just found your email (I'm still getting used to all the features on YouTube). I really admire your organization, it seems very lively!
If your group has any suggestions on how to better organize all those videos, please let me know. I'm trying to enlist the aid of tatters to sort all those out.
I wish you best of luck on your upcoming term.

I was reading some of our old newsletters and came across the article about the Plimoth Jacket.  Some of our members were instrumental in the lace that is on the jacket.

Back in December 2009 the jacket was revealed and then was loaned to the Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library.  It is currently displayed in their Textiles Gallery and beginning September 2011, it will be in their fall needlework exhibition.

If you'd like to know more about this amazing piece of work, you can see the book on The Plimoth Jacket.  The book is filled with many pictures that show how this jacket came to life.  At the end there is a wonderful thankyou to the Lace Makers that made this possible.
