Yesterday was my day to volunteer at the Big E and demonstrate making lace in the New England Building - or known to the fairgoers - the cream puff building!

It was a grand day - it was Connecticut Day - it's become a tradition for me.

Jeanne and I sat side-by-side for the morning.  Joined by her husband, he shepparded lots of folks over to our pillows.  We talked about cross and twist and 'you too can make lace'.  Jeanne brought a beautiful piece and I had my demo roller and snake pillow for kids. We handed out lots of NELG broshures and told folks to come to our website to read more about us.

Keep an eye out as we will post some great picutures for you!

I find myself just studying each picture as the go by.  There is an absolute wonderment in looking at the picots, the cross and twists, the braids and gimps.  With a few simple threads we mark out the tiny spaces that make the lace come alive

Make time for the Big E - I'll be there for Connecticut Day - you'll have a chance to get up close and personal. If you can't come to the fair, you can look at the entries right here. Thanks so much for all the artists that entered their lace creations for all of us to enjoy.

Hmmm  Is it too early to think about next year's lace entry???

    Hi,

Here is my question.  When you are working a piece where the worker pair is whole stitched through several pairs of passives, how do you keep the worker pair in the place that it should be?  When the worker only has to cross a few pairs of passives, I just pin the worker pair and then tug a little while gently holding down the passives.  But when there are 10 or more pairs, I find that I have to tug tight and then it distorts the piece.  What I end up doing, is putting in pins every 3 or 4 passive pairs to keep it in place.

Any advice?  If you want more of a hint of what I am talking about, please see my trio of houses piece.

    thank you for any suggestions,

    Linda

    Hi all,

It was amazing driving into the fairgrounds this morning.  There was activity all over the place as all the vendors and volunteers were scurry about to get ready for opening day - this Friday.

Thanks to Winann and Barbara who set up the display cases at the Big E - NELG is ready for opening day.  This year we filled TWO cases of lace!  It is truly exciting to have as many entries as we did.  While still in the New England Building - we have a better space with some room near the cases to be able to demonstrate. Additional thanks to Sarah and staff for their help.

On the home page you can see the carousel of pictures of most of the entries. Click here for the Sponsor Awardees  .  Hope you enjoy the pictures.

I haven't heard yet ....  Tomorrow when we go to the fairgrounds to set up the display we will find out who took this year's prizes.

The picutre to the right is a sample of what treats we are in for!  With a new camera, some patience, and practice, hopefully we will have all pictures of all the entries for you to see.

As of my posting tonight - there are no updates are on the Big E-Creative Arts.  Watch here for updates!

Thank you Nancy for allowing me to photograph your tatting!

Saturday was our first meeting of the new year for NELG.  I want to thank the members that attended; Linda D, Winann, Rosalie, Julie, Linda L, Susan, Bryce and Karen D, and to Lisa (guest of Linda L). It was a long meeting, we had so much to get covered.

Special thank you to Winann for representing Jill in the passing of the gavel and IOLI president's pin.

I am so happy to be working with such an amazing group of lace makers.  We came up with new information, suggestions, and overall planned out some of the up-coming events.  30th Anniversary event is about planned out for next October.  We spoke and discussed quite a bit about our budget and financial future.  It is looking like we need to raise the membership fee about $10 to $20 per year. Sign in and let us know YOUR thoughts.

Minutes will be ready soon so that everyone that couldn't attend could read them.  Thanks to the Officers/ Committee chairs that submitted their reports in advance.  We were able to have just about all aspects of the organization represented.

    Keep on Lacing,

    Patty

Today is the day that Winann is bring the many of the CT entries and Bryce is bringing some of the MA entries to the Creative Arts at the Big E.  It is truly exciting.  The entries that I was able to see and photograph last weekend are truly amazing.  Judging day is Monday and on Tuesday we will know the results.  Good Luck to the judges - they will have some amazing pieces to look at.  Good Luck to all that have entered - in my book you are all winners.

I hope to photograph the balance of the entries and we should be able to post them here at the website.

A BIG THANK YOU to Winann and Bryce to help coordinate the entering of our work.

We had a great day at Winann's this past Saturday.

I'm experimenting with a new camera, and spentsome time trying out some of it's features.  It was fun and I expect that we should have some great picutes from the Big E.

This is a picture of a piece of lace in progress from one of the attendees on Saturday.  Can you guess who?
