Lace museum opens in Raleigh: Salisbury resident donates items for exhibit

SALISBURY — Lacemaking is an artform that has been around for a long time, but there are not many museums in the United States that can boast being called a lace museum and exhibiting this delicate artwork.

I have signed up for the Finger Lakes retreat.  I will be driving from NH, coming down Rt 495 & across I-90.  Is there anyone attending who might be interested in carpooling? I'd be happy to detour a bit to pick someone up.

    Hi, all.

I spoke with Holly Van Sciver at the IOLI Convention last week.  She told me there are still 10 spaces available.  So common and join us, New England Lacers!

It was nice to see everyone yesterday. I hope to finish my tatted exchange bracelet/earrings for the Fringe Tatting group (fringetatters@gmail.com) by the next meeting!

I will be placing my order to Klöppelshop | Klöppelshop im Kaufhaus Köck (kloeppelshop.de) on July 15 if anyone wants to order and split shipping. :-)

ACTUALLY I no longer need to order at this time!

    happy lacing!

    :-) joan

Why can't we get Ipswich interested in some lace fences....? Or a bench like that Headford project had.

I love these. You can also vote for this lace fence over there among the other art.

Edit to add: this is where you can see all the projects and vote, if inclined. https://www.codaworx.com/codaawards/2024-top-100/

I got this book a while back, and it is the one that my local woodworker used to make the drum pillow that I have now. He was able to follow the directions, despite neither of us speaking much French.

Anyway: a couple of people have expressed interest in this book. It's not very expensive on their website, but we might as well combine shipping if anyone wants a copy.

Besides the pillow plans it has some patterns for the lace they make with diagrams. It's quite a nice book, really.

I just finished a book that involves using needle lace designs as encrypted messages! The Curse of the Flores Women is by a Brazilian author (Angelica Lopes) and is set in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. It follows 7 generations of a family and is a dual timeline story, set in 1918 and 2010. The 1918 women use their lace skills and income to seek freedom in a male-dominated culture.

I had no idea about the unusual path of her backstory. And a lovely donation for education.
