NELG member, Nancy Neff, has been invited by The Costume & Textile Society of The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art to give a lecture at their annual meeting on Thursday, September 19. The lecture is entitled "The History & Structure of Handmade Lace"

The invitation describes the presentation as follows: "Handmade lace was a luxury textile of amazing complexity, beauty, and diversity. Its history over the last 500 years can be witnessed in paintings, which were often portraits of the elite in their finery, and traced through examples of antique lace from the Wadsworth Atheneum’s Costume and Textile collections and pieces from the presenter’s own collection. An appreciation of the many types of lace is gained from understanding the ways in which lace was made, and from viewing details of different kinds and designs. Following the talk, the audience will have the opportunity to see bobbin lace and tatting being done, and to examine pieces of antique lace, some as old as the 16th century."

If you are interested in attending, reservations must be made by September 13 and there is a $10 charge for non-members of C&TS.
