A group of lace makers gathers in Connecticut to enjoy company, a pot luck lunch and, of course, make some lace.
The meeting rotates through members' homes and generally takes place on the first Saturday of the month from 10am to 4pm.
This month, our group will be hosted by Mary Linden in Guilford, CT. Members can find their contact information in the Member Directory. Not a member, but interested in attending Connecticut lace day? Please contact Winann at NELGTreasurer@gmail.com or call (203) 876-8314.
Please register so that our hostess will know how many guests to expect!
At our last Lace Day, Mary suggested thinking up a small project that we could do together (those who wished) and finish the same day with the object of learning something new or perfecting a skill. Several of us have a copy of Martina Wolter-Kempmann's Invisible, which comes with a DVD. Jill and Judy Anderson had worked on one of the practice pieces together, using the DVD, and got to understand how she was able to do invisible finishes in half-stitch and point ground. Quite ingenious!
The prickings for the practice pieces have been scanned and copies of a couple of pages (there are 6) have been printed on light card stock. We can decide which technique to tackle when we are together.
If you would like to participate, all you have to bring is a small empty pillow, pins, a crochet hook for sewings and 12 pairs of bobbins wound with thread equivalent to Bockens linen 40/2. According to Threads for Lace book, such equivalents include Bouc linen 50/2, DMC Cordonnet Special 50, Egyptian cotton 24/3, Madeira Tanne 12, DMC Perle 12 or Presencia Finca perle 16. As you can see, the practice pieces use sturdy thread, all the better to see what's going on. Finer threads would work but heavier threads might make too dense a result to see easily. Most of the practice pieces use 12 or fewer pairs. You might also want to bring various colored threads to use for magic threads although Mary will probably have some for us to use.
