The Hunterdon Art Museum is about to open a major exhibition on contemporary lace. The exhibition, "Lace, not Lace: Contemporary Fiber Art from Lacemaking Techniques", features 41 lace works by 26 artists and includes Jin Choi + Thomas Shine's the Urchins, and Lieve Jerger's Carriage of Lost Love. The show is curated by long-time NELG member, Devon Thein.

The exhibition opens September 23, with live music, food trucks, artist talks and a special lighting of the Urchins at dusk outside on our terrace.

The detailed press release can be found here.

I just got back from the IOLI convention in San Antonio. It was a great event, and despite the heat (over 100 oF everyday) and some hotel glitches, I think that "a good time was had by all".

At the AGM I picked up the charter chapter gift CD and a replacement charter that has the new IOLI name on it, which I'll bring to the first meeting in September.

Hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer,

    Carolyn W

As many of you know, the May issue of Interweave's Piecework magazine is devoted to the topic of Lace.  This year's issue is no exception.  One of the featured laces is Frisado de Valladolid by NELG member Carolyn Wetzel, examples of which are on the cover.

The Dutch lace group has posted 40 edging patterns in celebration of LOKK's 40th anniversary.  This is in Dutch, but language should not be a barrier.  In this collection are Torchon, Point Ground (including a Tonder pattern), Binche, Flanders, Milanese, s'Gravensmorse, Russian, tape, Dutch, a spider sampler, and more.  Here is the link to the page: https://www.lokk.nl/kantjevandemaand/kantjevandemaand.php .  There are a range of patterns here, so beginners should not be intimidated.

    Enjoy!

Laura Bensley found this article in a recent Nordic Needle newsletter.  Mary Linden has been an active NELG member who has been our liaison to the Big E for a while.  Here is a link to the article.  See: https://sendy.nordicneedle.com/sendy/w/aruk31ISriYlin0ntLtBgQ

https://www.interweave.com/article/crochet/jin-choi-crochet-art/  Great article written by Dora Ohrenstein.  I was interviewed for the article after we finished the Urchins and just before the Flying Mosque.  Hope you enjoy reading about these large lace exhibitions.  The next one will be in Scottsdale AZ and will open from November to March.  Plenty of time for people to see .....  Lace is Everywhere.
