NELG Monthly Meeting

  • March 19, 2011
  • 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Joshua Hyde Public Library, Sturbridge, MA

The library opens at 10:30 a.m., so please come early to visit with your lace making friends.  The business meeting will start promptly at 11 a.m. and be followed by the program.

This month Sharon Sacco will lead us through a Romanian Point needle lace project that she designed. To be prepared for it, Sharon asked that each of us put together the following items to bring to the meeting:

- 1.5 yards of regular Romanian cord and the thread used to make the cord.  Sharon’s sample uses size 20 Finca, but size 10 or 30 also work.

- A sharp needle and sewing thread that contrasts with the Romanian Cord.

- A piece of fabric, muslin or similar light colored fabric (Sharon is using a piece of an old shirt).

- A permanent marking pen

- A pillow (Sharon is using a piece of ethafoam packing material) and pins to hold the fabric.

- A tapestry needle that fits your thread.  Sharon’s is a 20 or 22.

Optional:

- Contrasting thread similar in size to that in the Romanian cord.  Sharon is using perle cotton #12, but #8 would also work.

- A metallic thread roughly the same size.  Sharon is using Kreinik braid #4

Sharon also recommends making the fancy braid once the Romanian cord is basted onto the fabric so it fits.  It will take about 3.5".

And, as always, feel free to come join us even if you don’t want to make the project!
