If you are interested in attending a casual lace get together, this Sunday is the Eastern Masschusettes Group.  You can sign in at our Calendar where you will get additional information for contact, time, and location.

I've been a fan our our get together in Connecticut and I'm looking foward to the Massachusetts group.  I just heard that we had a local meeting in Vermont and asked them to forward their information about their future meetings.

Many times a member may be just a bit too far out to get to the NELG meeting in Sturbridge.  Local get togethers are a great way to share your lace, create our community and extend the geographical reaches of NELG.

I'm looking forward to meeting new members of NELG and listening to a great book on the trip up and back.

    Enjoy some lace this weekend!

If you have been watching the IOLI website, a discussion is mounting regarding changing the name.  It is so interesting to watch the various reasons why and why not there should be a name change.  Seems to me - it is a generational issue.

As I wrote on their site - the name change is only the tip of the iceberg of what our IOLI needs to do.  You can read it there.

What's interesting is that you can not set up your own name to make a post - instead use a generic login.  While this isn't so terrible, it is difficult to respond to the individual posting a great comment.

I do want to thank Devon for writting the article in the Bulletin and taking all the correspondence that has come in so far.  If you haven't rung in - visit the site and let them know your thoughts,

Another great day at the ESE and the Fiber Festival.  Much thanks to Linda, Mary & Bryce for manning the booth and handing out even more brochures for NELG.

We meet many people with all kinds of interest in lace.  It was nice to field their questions and invite them to join us at a NELG meeting in the future.  We even had someone go home from the day before to find their beginners kit.  She came back on Sunday and we got her started on her snake bookmark.

It's a good day for making lace,

    Patty

What a great day NELG had yesterday at the Fiber Festival.  The attendees moved around and gathered at our booth.

Many thanks to Linda, Catherine, Linda, Martine, and Jeanne for visiting.  Thanks to
Cressy, Jeanne's husband, who took lots of pictures and as soon as he has electric, we will be enjoying some pictures.  Yes I was there, but our booth was full, so I decided to work on my little crochet project and stand in the aisle and attract individuals into the booth.  It worked well, even did a show-me pillow.  (note to self - can we get two booths with electric next year?)

All is all, it was a great day.  We handed out so many brochures - over 80 so I'm going up there in a few to bring more brochures and to help out our volunteers today.

By the way - we will be back at the Fair Grounds in two weeks for the Deerfield Christmas show.

    Hope to see you!

About two weeks ago, I wrote a letter to the Board of IOLI about the article included in the Bulletin regarding the change of the name. This was a personal letter and voiced my observations about the points brought up in the article.

Today - I am pleased to tell you I recieved a request to post my letter on the Lace Round Table  at the IOLI site.  There are five posts already since 10am today.  While I await approval of my registration, I do want to let you know the discussion has begun.  Please take a moment or two to reread your copy of the Bulletin and then read the site.  It's time to make your voice heard about the name change.

    Enjoy lacing, Patty

    Hi all,

It's been a brrrrrr several days as Winter Storm Alfred swept over the Northeast USA last weekend.  Some of us were spared and then some of us enjoyed a winter wonderland in October with no power or heat! That's the tree that came down next door to me last Sunday morning.  Now that power has been restored, to some of us, it's time to think about the Fiber Festival.

This weekend we will be at the Big E / Eastern States Fair Grounds to demonstrate making lace at the 2nd Annual Fiber Festival.  Big thanks in advance to those of you who have signed up to demonstrate.

If you need additional information - please check with Mary at NELGMemberatLarge@gmail.com

    Enjoy lacing!

Yesterday  I donned by NELG name badge and headed to the Convention Center in downtown Hartford, CT.  It was the final day of Stitches East.  I had three goals - First meet Kristi Miller of Knitting Universe - she is the organizer I spoke with in getting an educational non-profit two booth space. Unfortunately our group decided not to attend - we truly missed out.  As I spoke to vendors - they said the show was bustling with business and overall a great show.  I learned some of the in's and out's about the set up of a show and great ideas that will benefit NELG in its future.

Second goal was to meet yarn shops from the New England area.  It's nice on Sunday morning, a little be slower, as I was able to meet with the shop owners.  They were interested in having us demonstrate or put on an event.   I also had time to renew my acquaintance with the Exec Director, of the Crochet Guild of America - their conference, The Knit & Crochet Show is back to New Hampshire this summer beginning June 27th. Hmmm, maybe we could attend?

Third, spread the word of NELG.  I had people stop me in the aisles and ask about NELG - I may have two more individuals interested in our group.

All in all - what a great show.  Bonus - purchased two skeins of recycled saria silk 'yarn'.

    Having fun....  Patty

On Friday, I attended a quilt event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The person conducting the program and I began to discuss lace. She is a member of the Handweavers Guild of Connecticut. She thinks that a lacemaking workshop or program would be or interest to the group. Is there anyone on the list who would like to pursue this? Her name is Rebecca Arkenberg. Her email is  RJNA@aol.com  .

"Happy lacer" asked to see pictures of the pocket book/travel lace pillow that Martine had at a recent CT lace day.  Here are a couple of photos that Patty took.....

As far as I know, there are no formal plans yet for when this might be a program, but I hear there was plenty of interest from the CT group!

    For those who asked:

The pattern I have been using for try-it demonstrations can be found in Lene Bjorn's "62 Small Hearts in Bobbin Lace." It's #3. Heart in Cloth Stitch.  It only requires 5 pairs, works up well in tatting cotton or similar (ignore the linen 28/2 the pattern calls for), requires only a small amount of thread, and the path of the worker pair is very clearly shown.  All the demonstrator has to do is the start, the end, and maybe the point in the middle.  Goes fast.

The NELG library does not seem to have this book, but it is inexpensive and in print.  No scanner, so I can't send you a copy of the pricking, but I'll try to bring a copy or two when next I get to a NELG meeting.

I, too, tired of the snake....
