Many thanks to NELG member, Barb McGuire, for bringing this article to my attention.  London's Kensington Palace has just undergone a multi-million dollar restoration and now features (among other things) a gigantic luminous lace sculpture in the entrance hall.

You can read more about the creators of this amazing work of art at De Zeen's website.

    Enjoy!

I will be attending the Sweet Briar lace workshop again this year.  Although I do not have my exact travel plans made, I do plan to be driving down.  If there is anyone who would like to join me, I would be delighted to share.  Although I warn you, I have tended to take some some time to sight-see along the way.  I will also have room in my car to take some items down if you are planning to attend but are taking the train or flying down.  Lace pillows, etc. don't make for convenient travel luggage.
Call me or email if you'd like to discuss possible arrangements.  Think summer!

You will have seen in the February issue of the NELG newsletter that the 2012 Lace Challenge has been announced.  While details were included in the newsletter, for your convenience I have also posted the information on our Lace Challenge webpage.

We had some very creative entries last year for the first Challenge, and I encourage everyone to give it a try this year.  The deadline for entries is retreat weekend.

A link has just been added to our Links page that will take you to Sandi Woods' website, where you will be able to feast your eyes on a spectacular gallery of some of her designs.  She also has photos of work in progress, and a great technical information page.  I encourage you to check it out when you have a few minutes......

    Dear Lacing Friends:

A tatting class will be held in Littleton, MA (right off 495) at The World In Stitches.  The cost of the class is $60 and students may purchase their supplies from the shoppe or bring their own.  The hours of the class are 10-12:00 noon and the class room has plenty of light, is large, and even has a resident DAZOR light as well.  Additionally, the shoppe has a large stitching, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and hardanger inventory.

There are four (4) dates over which the class runs.  The dates of class are:

    2/11, 2/18, 2/25, 3/03

The class is for beginners and intermediate level.  I can highly recommend Randi's classes, having taken several myself in other areas.  For contact, please call:

TWIS, 256 Great Road, Littleton, MA  01460

It's about ready - watch the website for details about this year's retreat.  Besides the new paperless (almost) registration process, great teachers, great place to stay, amazing lace friends, there will be a discount on the accomodations and classes - only if you register early!  Don't let the opportunity slip by - leaves a few more coins for shopping!

Hope to see you at Retreat!

Can you believe it!  Those of us living in New England have been so fortunate this month (so far) without any major storms and inconveniences.

While we did cancell our January meeting, I was wondering what projects is everyone working on?

My attention has been on the Shelby work - it is going ....  slowly....  and I've been looking at lots of Lace Books.  I've been "picking up" my lace pillows, though it seems I only move them from place to place.  I'm getting ready for a week long guest in several weeks so the studio needs to be turned back into a bedroom!

So how about you?  What can you say for your Month of January?

    Enjoy your lace,

    Patty

Just in time for NELG's first meeting in 2012, Mother Nature decided it was time once again to see some measurable snow!

Unfortunately our day together needed to be cancelled.  Everyone should have received the email last evening.   I was off to the post office this morning and glad we were not on the road today.  It was quite slippery and we had only about an inch.

Since many of you will have this New England storm, I hope that you will use the day to enjoy your lace as if we were together in Sturbridge.

Soup is on at my place, enjoy your day!

For those who didn't catch it on Arachne - both Doris Southard and Irma Osterman died last week. They were essential to the promotion of bobbin and needle lace, respectively, in the USA, when few others even knew what it was here.
